Seriously, though, it's our favorite time of year as the Fur Rondy and Iditarod action get underway. With that comes all of the standard blog posts on Reitter's Block, and first up - to maybe help you familiarize yourself with the teams as you create your Fantasy Mushing team - is the musher roster.
Thirty-nine mushers are currently on the roster (there were 40 until this afternoon when Iditarod announced a popular musher has been disqualified citing Rule 53 - the personal conduct rule). There are four Iditarod Champions currently listed. Sixteen of the thirty-nine are rookies. Eleven women plan to take teams to Nome. Five countries are represented.

As always the roster is in sign up order until after the bib numbers are released post Musher Banquet on the Thursday evening before the race. Kennels have been noted and public social media links for each team are linked when possible. There's always room for error, if corrections need to be made be sure to comment below!

DeleteI got interested in the Iditarod about 30 years ago. I think all the well-known mushers back then are retired now, and it is exciting for me to see today's veterans mix with the rookies. I will have my eye on Dallas Seavey and Lara Kittelson. Be safe and have fun, everyone!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely the changing of the guard, and as someone who grew up watching the races it's hard to let go of the old and embrace the new! LOL Dallas and Ryan are generationally bridging that gap between old and new, but more and more are embracing the new ways of mushing.

DeleteMy fantasy team is all female, rooting for Josi Thyr as rookie of the year! Also disturbed by the other allegations that have come to light and hope the musher in question also withdraws.
ReplyDeleteyes the DQ yesterday was very sad and frustrating for a multitude of reasons, and I too hope that the other musher allegations are taken seriously.
DeleteAnd yay for an all female team! I agree Josi could make a really strong running for ROTY! Will Rhodes could, too, though. Brenda and Will have a fantastic kennel.
I have hard time picking favorites. Love Ryan and one of his dogs is my most favorite dog, though I’m not sure if she’s racing this year:) But I want everyone to have a good and safe race! Maybe especially also Anna, and also the other Anna, Erin, Mille, Hunter, Paige, Amanda — one I just admire so many of them. It’ll be weird to only have one Berington!! Feeling lots of empathy for Iditarod leadership being faced with some tough dilemmas and the position they’re in. Always has to be some kind of drama, eh? But truly grateful that they are taking allegations seriously, as they must.
ReplyDeleteyes, it seems there's always something leading up to the start that has the media and fans in a tizzy. they are between a rock and a hard place, but they probably could've handled things a bit sooner.

I was a little dismayed with all that happened just prior to the race this year, but no longer. WOW. From my standpoint, it looks like a GREAT race! No one yet has scratched, which I think is unusual. Dallas is overcoming setbacks, the rookies and lady mushers are all doing well, and I keep checking the standings every hour or so. Great job, everyone!
